Five Reasons

First of all, it has come to my attention (thank you, Letisha!) that there is already a variation of Friday Funny! It's called Friday Funnies, and it accompanies the Girl Talk blog. I just wanted to get that out there, and tell you I am aware of it now, and I understand that I am not original. I only thought I was!

I'm taking a little break from the usual hilarity today and answering a meme that Andrea tagged me with!

Five Reasons Why I Blog

1. I love to share with our family and friends what we are experiencing here in this life of ministry. We live at least an hour away from our closest family, and so it is a joy to write about my thoughts, my ideas, and my sweet children and know that there are dear ones reading along.

2. I do love to write. It went into hibernation about the time I graduated from high school, and I wondered if it was buried forever as I slowly lost brain cells with each child I birthed. But with age comes a maturing thought process, and, of course, more material!

3. Ah, yes, material. The funniest things happen, and I must have an outlet to spill it in this small town! And when God makes his presence known in the simplest things, I feel a desire to share my thoughts, and my weaknesses. The humbling that I used to fear has become a catalyst!

4. I learn so much through writing. Or should I say, God reveals much. My pieces don't just fall out of me. Most days, I don't even sit down to the computer until the children are in bed, and it's usually a couple of hard hours that loom ahead of me as I wring it out. I begin with a thought, and sometimes three or four drafts are discarded before I finish, for they usually take a turn somewhere and end up being about something else entirely! And that is where I learn.

5. And lastly, I started blogging for the previous reasons, but I continue blogging partly because of the dear friends I have made in Blogland, whose input I value very highly, and whose encouragement is much needed. Even those who have no blog, but communicate with me privately about my posts, inspire me daily with their strength in who they are.

So, this is why I blog. And it is why I hope to never stop!

Hey, I can't leave you without a funny, can I?

Corban was pretending he was a banker today, and I played along with him as he introduced himself as "Al" and proceeded to chat with me about various topics.

He told me he knew my son, Corban, and thought he was a "such a nice boy". I agreed, and then he asked, "Now, are you the Elise who blogs? Is it called "A Path Made Straight"?

I answered, yes, that was me, and he said, "You do a great job - it's a real good blog."

*smile*

Have a blessed weekend!

... and I'm so glad you blog! Those are five very good reasons you gave, and your love for the written word, your husband and children, and the Lord and His work are very evident. Thank you for blessing all of us, and for being such a good Blogland friend. I enjoyed the funny too!

Such sweet words from your Corban. I agree...a real good blog!

I chuckled when I read the part about fried brain cells. Oh, do I relate!

It was neat to read about your writing process, and somewhat encouraging that these great pieces don't come without a bit of labor. ;)

Blessings, Elise. I too am glad you blog.

I just want to let you know your header verse (Hebrews) is about my all time favorite! I have someone helping me redesign my blog and I almost put it in the header but something kept telling me no...I guess it is so I wouldn't be a big fat copy cat! :) However, I do believe God speaks in themes...The whole 'share in the light what you've learned in the dark' concept definitely applies in the bloggy world...don't you think? I'm looking forward to knowing all you girls more!

Those are great reasons, and I'm glad that you blog too, and that God directed me to your blog amidst all the millions(?) of blogs that are out there! You are an incredible blessing, and since it's not possible to have you as a neighbor, I'm glad I can enjoy your company here!
Al is so cute! :)
Blessings,
Angel

Corban was so right, Elise. You do a great job--it is a real good blog. I am glad I discovered you through my daughter, Mrs. S, and I notice right away what a good writer you are. I hope you continue blessing all of us for a very long time. You've even been an encouragement to older sisters in the Lord, like me.

I'm so glad you have "a real good blog." How else would I have had the joy of your "company" on this journey?
