Babies adore him. Children respect him. Mothers appreciate him.
No, he's not a politician.
He's my Micah. And today, he is eight.
Already?
Babies and little children flock to him as if he's the Pied Piper. But he never leads them astray; he dances, and they laugh. He sings, and they clap. He reads, and they listen. He just sits there, and they crawl all over him. As I said, mothers appreciate him.
And so do I.
Big squishy boy who doesn't fit on my lap but has his place in the crook of my neck. Who listened as each member of his family prayed over him this morning, and then laid his head on the table and prayed for each one of them. In detail. With great feeling and depth and love.
Today, he is eight.
Just?
My second born marks his best day with the first day of autumn, my favorite day of the year. For both reasons. The heat raced through our vents this morning as the outside air read forty-two degrees, and I smiled at that familiar scent and laughed at Micah's greeting of Happy birthday! I mean... it's my birthday! And then he ate three breakfast sandwiches and gulped his orange juice and read the morning Psalm and declared today the best birthday ever.
Today, he is eight.
Already today. Just today.
We won't think about tomorrow. Until tomorrow.

I just found your blog and LOVE it. How sweet your little Micah is. My son Micah just turned 8 on the 23 of Sept. It made me smile to see your little guy and what a sweet young man he is.
