You should read "On Christmas Eve" by Margaret Wise Brown. Beautiful text and illustrations. One of our favorites!

"The Little Fir Tree" with Cooney's illustrations; so lovely and rare now! We have "Good King Wencenlas" now from the library. Yes we have a large, lovely stack we enjoy. "The Story of Holly and Ivey" by Godden has such a redemptive message we've enjoyed, although it's not overtly Christian. Our oldest has enjoyed "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" and again, we are discussing the redemptive message about how Jesus came for "Herdmans". warmly from Mary Brooke

What a great list! I'm filling up my list of library requests and at too. :)

One Wintry Night is a great book.

Hi Elise, your suggestions have been such a help and blessing to us as we have been gradually stocking up our Christmas basket - many thanks! We found a few in our library, including Good King Wenceslas which my three love singing. We also love The Story of Holly and Ivy and a new favourite this year has been singing their way through a book of Christmas Carols.

Wish I could come snuggle up with all of you and be read to!!
One of my Christmas favorites is "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever."
My sons acted in the play version when they were in Middle School. It was such fun.

Some of our favorites are "The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree" by Gloria Houston (illustrated by Barbara Cooney), "Christmas Day in the Morning" by Pearl S. Buck, "Apple Tree Christmas" by Trinka Hakes Noble, and "Christmas Tapestry" by Patricia Polacco. They are good friends that we enjoy re-reading every year!
