Children's Book Monday

Here is a delightful book for your toddler; it tells the story of Sally, who lives on a farm. She "touches" the seasons with her senses, and the accompanying pictures and prose are simply sweet.

Of course, all things Tasha Tudor are delightful, but this book is special for the simple way it presents the five senses to the young child - Eliana is captivated by the illustrations, spending several minutes lingering over a picture of Sally and her puppy examining an acorn!

A snippet...

Sally sees spring with the first flowers, the new leaves. The fields and woods turn soft and green.

She hears spring as the robins sing, the brooks run, the frogs trill in the pond.

She smells spring in daffodils and warm earth.

She touches spring holding new kittens.

She tastes spring in syrup from the maple trees, and makes "sugar on the snow".

This book may be at your local library - please look! It is old, but so good, and you and your children will love it.

Happy Reading!

I don't think that I have ever read any Tasha Tudor books to my kids. Looks nice, though, we'll have to check it out.

By the way, how do you decide on the books you post? Do you just browse through your library, do you have like some great book list somewhere....just wondering. Seems like I have to search and search through the children's section at our library just to find books each time that I want to read with the kids! Any suggestions?

Just came across your meme. Great idea! And I am totally going to write these down to check-out for my kiddos.
I have a question...do you know of any good character-building books or devotionals for kids? My kids are 4 and 3, and I would love to help them develop more in character issues, such as being polite, sharing, interupting, patience, courage, etc. Thanks!

Elise, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself this morning. I've been reading your blog for a couple of weeks, but this is the first time I've went back and read through your archived Children's Book posts. I am going to buy some of the ones you highlighted for my kids' birthdays next month. My daughter is turning five, and my youngest son is turning one. You had books great for both of them. Thanks for the recommendations!

Wonderful book. I just LOVE Tasha Tudor; I've loved her since childhood. My mom has a lot of very old Tasha Tudor books, and they are such treasures.
I'm glad you and Eliana enjoy them, too!
