Children's Book Monday

Ah, such a treat I have for you today - a review of a wonderful book for your one to three year olds, and a dramatic reading by a precious two-year old!

Cock-a-Moo-Moo
by Juliet Dallas-Conte
Illustrated by Alison Bartlett

Well, if your little one is currently learning animal sounds, or even if they already have, this is a wonderful book to hone that skill!

To begin with, Rooster has forgotten how to crow! He accidentally uses the cows' "Moo", but after the cows set him straight about that, he moves on to the duck's noise, and then makes his way around the barnyard. When all the animals call him "Silly Rooster," he vows never to crow again!

But that night, when something happens that requires a warning, Rooster, in all of his misunderstood glory, saves the day and wins the praise of the entire barnyard.

Eliana knows most of her barnyard animal sounds, so this book has been such fun to read with her - it is very short, and simple, yet it makes us giggle and shout the animal sounds at the top of our lungs!

I first learned of this book from my friends, Ryan and Katie, when they posted a video of their sweet two-year-old, Hannah, reading Cock-a-Moo-Moo to her brother, Gabriel. Both the book AND the video are hits at our house - we all find ourselves quoting the funny story in Hannah's adorable little voice! It's a perfect peek into the simple fun of this book, so please take a moment to watch it - then rush out to the library and pick up a copy for yourselves!

Happy Reading!

*edited to add: Yes, normally it would be time for another contest - but in the midst of this move, and waiting for our home to sell, there is little left over for a fun treat like a new book! Ten more books, okay?

Elise,
Oh my goodness that was just so beyond cute I can barely stand it.
Thank you for letting us listen in on sweet Hannah reading this book. :)
Can't wait to read it to my kiddos! And you'd better believe I'm hoping they'll want to read it all by *their* cute little selves, too!

Hi Elise,
What a cute book. I'll have to check it out! It reminds me of another book entitled "Cock-a-doodle-MOO!" by Bernard Most. It has a similar storyline and it is REALLY funny to read, even for us parents! (Aren't those the best books? The ones that we parents like, too?)

I vote for having of all the books demonstrated on video by cute kids. They sure can "sell" a book better than we can! :)

This is the first week I'm joining you as a reviewer, but I've read your Children's Book Mondays for many weeks. You've pointed me toward some of what have become my daughters' favorite books. Thank you!

Help, I'm technically challenged. I clicked on your blog's music and turned it down as much as I could (it looked like I turned it down all the way, but I could still hear it--how do I mute?), but it is still hard to hear this precious little girl. Suggestions anyone?

That was precious. We are a bit past the animal sound books here, but it looks to be a wonderful gift for a friend who will be having a new baby.

Yay! Selena may find this as a gift in a month or so ... :-) The video was absolutely precious.

Praying that the Lord is giving you grace while you wait on Him!

Thanks for the extra blessing. This is the kind of book I enjoy reading to the very little ones. But how much cuter it is coming from this little lady! So sweet! This was indeed a treat.

Elise,
I just sat down at the computer with my three to show them this video of Hannah. Ella (5) implored me again and again, "Mommy, don't delete this, okay? I really like it." :) *And* we just got notice from the library that the book is waiting for us.
Thanks again,
Stacy
