Children's Book Monday - x2!

Silent Night
by Will Moses

Another Christmas treat... cuddle up under a heavy blanket with your favorite little ones and fall in love with this story... and the pictures...

In a tiny Vermont village, everyone is hurrying this Christmas Eve. But in the Miller family, their rush is for an entirely different reason!

The young Millers, Tom Henry and Andy, have cut down their own tree to decorate, and Pa is fetching Grandma Stokes from the station as carolers pass by on a sleigh with their open songbooks. The village doctor is soon fetched from his warm home and makes his way to the Miller farm. When a Christmas miracle arrives, Andy is worried that he has nothing to give, but soon finds in his young, generous heart the best present of all.

It is really difficult to do this book justice; the paintings of the quaint village and names of the village folk themselves... Teasy Simpson, town busybody, for example... evoke impossible feelings of memory, as if you were once there yourself. It has quickly become a favorite, and a must-have for our Christmas book library.

Will Moses has illustrated several classics for children, all delightful in their folksy, cozy way. Put some of these on hold at your library today - you will be delighted!

Enjoy!

Eliana: (softly) I yeeew... (I love you)

I Love You More

There are a lot of reviews floating around the blogosphere lately... here... here... here...all because of this wonderful book.

It has found a permanent home in the Hooper household as well! We love the simple chalk drawings and the gentle (rhyming!) words. We laugh as Eliana signs for nearly every animal she spies, and we thoroughly enjoy flipping the book over and reading, from the other side, about a little boys' love for his mama.

All families have "I love you" contests... ours happens to be, "No, I love you!" "No, I love you!"

Now, we've taken to quoting from this book in our goodnights, along with our own version, and that is a very good thing.

I love you sweeter than the sweetest chocolate ever tasted... I love you higher than the highest mountain God created... I love you softer than the softest pillow ever felt... I love you longer than the longest prayer ever knelt...

This sweet book may be a little new to find at your library, but Amazon really does have a great price for it - Happy Reading!

My heart is so happy this morning and it is all because of you! You are here again, for a time, writing about one thing we all love: reading to our kiddos! I have missed you friend.

We don't have that I Love You book, but we have several others like it...and we too have a litany of I love Yous.... you can never have too many. The other night at dinner the entire conversation was an "I love you as far as...." contest with each of us coming up with something farther away than the other! So great to see little minds work and little hearts filled up!
