Lord, please be with us today,
Bless our school in every way!
We promise to
Listen to
Everything You say!
Help us as we learn new things,
Guide us as we count and sing.
When Mama speaks
We'll be meek
To honor You, our King!
Lord, we want to learn and grow,
Because you gave us minds, and so
We'll begin
Following
The way that we should go!

Our first day of school is tomorrow, regardless of the fact that Corban has already been carrying an Abigail Adams biography tucked under his arm, poking maps and facts beneath our noses. And despite Micah burying his nose in a brand new arithmetic book and Eliana sitting at her desk staring dreamily at The Storyteller (who has now been re-named "Dottie")...
...tomorrow. Fistfuls of freshly sharpened pencils top our table, and new (to us) unlined maps and books beckon. We will issue the invitation, fully believing He will bless us with His presence. And because of this...
...we expect great things!

In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he WILL make straight your paths.(!)

fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7 (emphasis mine)

Hi Elise :)
Praying with you...
Love, Q
Hi, Elise! I pray your first day is full of smiles and joy. Your "students" are blessed to have you as their mama teacher! Have a great time - I'm so excited to join you soon schooling my kids!
Tomorrow is our first official day as well. So exciting! Don't you just love the smell of those new books and pencils? :)
Thank you, Elise... oh, Thank you...
All's grace,
Ann
Elise--
love that song. we sang it many times last year to start our school day. (wasn't sure of the tune, but i think we did ok...!)
i love your school room--very inspiring.makes me want to finsh out our basement and make a school room. =)
you are a careful and brilliant mummy. =)
May it be the best school year yet :) You have a wonderful shadow teacher...Jesus. He is there!
The invitation is wonderful! I think I will tweak it a bit for those of us whose children are grown and gone! Have a wonderfully blessed school year!
can't wait to watch your school year unfold! Love it sister! Blessings to the teacher, MANY blessings!
It was so encouraging to read about your beginning of the school year...I loved the poem!
We started our first day of school today (as much as can be done with an almost five year old....) and I think it went well. Thanks for the encouragement and inspiration!
lovely, simply lovely.
we had the beginning of week 2 today. thought of you much.
Congratulations on your first day of school. Having been a teacher for 10 years before our daughter's arrival, the new year still evokes and stirs subtle emotions in me. I look forward to the new year when we educate our little ones at home. I can hardly wait!
Since your advice has been brimming over with success, I thought I would throw you another carrot. :) What about devotional books? I have spent significant time perusing your blog for devotional books, but I haven't landed in the right place. What about a post on that sometime - in all your free time!!! 8)
Thanks again for all you do for us.
Blessings,
Teri
What a warm, welcoming place Elise. I wish I could tuck myself into one of those little chairs and listen in.
I recognize the barn puzzle as the one we have in stored in a box. It is left from my childrens' childhood toys, and we bring it out when the grands visit.
I pray His presence will fill your hearts and your school room. Blessings on this year of learning.
My mom just finished reading Abigail Adams, and I've already started it. Very good book.
I came here from Ann Voscamp's blog and then spied something familiar. (Hello, "Dottie!")
Blessings on your new year,
-Breezy
Could I ask where you printed your natural science calendar from. I have been searching it and have been unable to find it, I know I have seen it before just can't remember where. We started school today with our 5 year old. Such fun and excitement. I love your song/poem - I may include that in our day as well. Thanks!
Elise~
We stepped into our new season of learning on Tuesday as well...a long but treasured day. God bless you and your family.
Roberta (I met you briefly at the Idaho homeschool conference this year.)
Oh Sweet Elise,
praying for His wisdom over you this year... His love poured out through you... May everyday be in our Father's classroom...
Happy start to school, my dear sister in Christ!
Carrie
Hi Katie!
I own Natural Science Through the Seasons, so I printed the calendars out onto colored cardstock and rotate them throughout the school year.
But the inspiring Ann Voskamp (aholyexperience.com) already has some calendars available for you to print for yourself! Use her search engine (google) at the bottom of her page- enter Natural Science Through the Seasons.
I am so sad that this book is widely out of print now- I know it would be such a blessing to so many homeschoolers - it truly is a wonderful addition to our days!
Blessings~
Elise
Elise,
I loved this as well as your "Leaf Man" writing. We have many of the same books as treasures. I am inspired by the glimpses into your life as I thank God continually for getting to be home with ours. I love the "invitation". Mary Brooke
Elise,
What inviting little spaces in your home for school! :)
(I recognized the painting right away. I love her work! Of *course* you would, too. Those illustrations are so very you. :))
(((Thank you, friend))), also for your kind comment on my last post, and for forwarding me to that beautiful (and apt) Sara Groves song.
Love to you...
Lovely wall maps...where did you get them?
Lovely heart map here too.....may God bless your travels this year!
