Goin' Courtin'

A "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" soundtrack was one of Eliana's birthday presents this year. Our children really love old musicals- my boys would sit through "The Fiddler on the Roof" from the time they were two and four, dancing with abandon just like Tevye! So it was inevitable that our girly-girl would fall in love with the dancing and colorful skirts of this fun movie. We bought her the soundtrack so that she wouldn't just have to watch the movie to hear the music, and now it is quite common to hear her calling, "Coco!" for her favorite song!

Here are a couple of videos of the dancing this music inspires. I did not train her to hold her pants like a skirt, she just does it. I did not coach her to twist and turn as if she is twirling layers of petticoats, she just picked it up. And as for her dramatic rendition of the scene where two brothers are dramatizing a courting moment for Milly, well- that is copied straight from the movie!

Be blessed and a blessing this weekend, friends!

How delightful. I must admit that I love the dancing in that movie. I can see that your little lady is going to be quite the dancer! I'm not surprised about her holding her pants. The little folks seem to notice everything. Enjoy your weekend, dear--You'll be getting a New Year's card from us soon. It's finally in the mail. I love your family!!!!

Big admission. I have not seen that movie, or thought to sit the girls down for it. I assume it comes highly recommended? :)

You baby girl sure is getting big! She's so cute...

Precious!

I LOVE musicals! You can't beat those old musicals for good, clean entertainment for the whole family (I know, that sounded like an advertisement). :)

My girls do similar type dancing with the Oklahoma soundtrack!

We have to soak up all their innocence while we can! It's wonderful to see. :)

Broadway bound! Remember I "knew" her when she was just starting out! Truth is, I wish she could come and dance in this Nana's living room. I miss my little ones so much now that they have all moved away :-(

Soooooo sweet! Elise, she is growing up so fast! I remember that musical well. My little sister used to check it out from the library all the time. Good idea, getting her the soundtrack! I am sorry I have been so out of touch - it doesn't mean I don't think of you because I do!! I'm going to do better :-)

Oh what a wonderful movie! My mother saturated us with the older musicals and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Oklahoma! were our favorites. My sisters and I would act out these videos all the time.

Thanks for bringing to mind such wonderful memories!
