Rhythm {and wonder}

I know I've been rather quiet in this little space lately.

That's just because Life has been so very... Life... lately.

And just when I think I cannot hear His voice over the din, see the Way through the chaos, feel His breath inside the whirl...

I find Him in the scribblings in my journal.

Without the essential nutrients of rest, wisdom, and delight embedded in the problem-solving process itself, the solution we patch together is likely to be an obstacle to genuine relief.
Sabbath: Restoring the Sacred Rhythm of Rest, Wayne Muller

Life is like the breath: We must be able to live in an easy rhythm between give and take. If we cannot learn to live and breathe in this rhythm, we will place ourselves in grave danger.
Brother David Steindl-Rast

Enjoy.
~God

While [the] sacrifice to fulfill Christ's mission for [motherhood] is wholly appropriate, sacrificing at the altar of perfectionism, overcommitment, and disorganization most decidedly is not.
Real Learning: Education in the Heart of the Home, Elizabeth Foss

God, hear me saying...heart beat...
I am dry and brittle and ready to snap.
God, I hear You saying...heart beat...
How else to be kindling for a burning bush?

and among my own scribblings...

...Am I shouldering a yoke that is not His?

..."Come," He said. "Let us go, and rest, and pray..."

...I want to be a light...

...SLOW DOWN!!!

So of course I find He's been whispering the Way all along. My fingertips trace the words in wonder.

Rhythm, rest, sacrifice, order...

These are the map-words I'm holding close in these blurry, whirly, breathless days. And He's even mapped those for me, for I find Him here...

...as we're reading stories in front of the fire, hanging the leaves, recording the gratitude...

The Way-words keep me from heading wayward off this path.

I'm still walkin'. Just a little quieter in some places...

You, there- kind friend?

Enjoy!

He said so.

I just started the book "Sabbath" this morning in my prayer time. I read those very words. Pondering the same things with you... Be that blessing and that light today. Breathe, rest, love and know you are loved. :)

It always brightens my day to see that you have a bit of time for a little "chat."
Do you know, I always imagines that when the nest was empty and my husband home full time, there would be endless hours stretching out in front of us to do with as we pleased? Instead, the reality is we are just as busy as ever. I wonder where the hours and the days go and how did it get to be the middle of November already.
I so appreciate the words you've shared Elise. I have that book...in the stack. Time to take time to read it and live it.
Thank you sweet girl.

The quietness of your blog is what I love about it so much (and I do love it here).

Knowing you put many, many things before this place somehow makes it more encouraging ("to live life, blog the overflow").

Your journal pages are inspiring!

Love!

dearest friend,
I would *love* to see your journal--i bet it's beautiful.
I understand the busyness of home...
And sometimes there is no time or thought to blog that overflow.... *smile*
But I appreciate you and this place of *you*. all of it.

He is teaching me daily, His grace is sufficient, His Word is love and His voice and His presence is magnified when we (I) stop, listen, pray and rest in His presence...
What an amazing Father we have :)
Bless you~
